stairwell accompaniment:The Be Good Tanyas
Last night we drove to Columbus to hear Jim Wallis speak.
Some notes I took, some of which I agree with:
-"You don't ever say God is on your side. You worry and pray earnestly to be on God's side."--Lincoln
-We don't need a religious left to counter the religious right, we need a moral center to religious parties.
-Inequality is a biblical issue.
-Who would Jesus torture?
-Shock the world. Stand for the poor. Don't be consumed with power.--Bonhoeffer
-4,000 abortions happen every day. How can you vote any other issue? 9,000 people die from AIDS every day. How can you vote any other issue? 30,000 children die a day without clean water. How can you vote any other issue? Politics will not bring God's Kingdom.
-Will God ask us how He created the world, or will He ask us how we treated it?
-Almost as many Americans have died in the war in Iraq as in 9-11. And more than 10 times as many Iraqis.
-Vote ALL your values.
